NOVEMBER 2016
“Thank you”
November is full of so many events. It can be difficult to center in on one theme which encompasses the month, but I will try. Gratitude is the theme. Look at all that goes on in this month: All Saints Day; Stewardship Pledge Sunday; Community Day; Election Day; Veterans Day; Christ the King Sunday; Thanksgiving Day; and the beginning of Advent. We see all of this happening and all one can say in response is, “Thank You.”
We say Thank You for where we live, grateful for the community around us and how we take care of each other. We say Thank You as we recognize and celebrate the men and women who have fought for this country, for our freedoms, and we respond in freedom when we cast our votes in elections. We gather as a country in a National Day of Thanksgiving, not just to eat and watch parades and football, but to give thanks to God for our blessings, freedom, family, friends, health, and the list goes on.
In our faith, we say Thank You to the saints who have influenced our lives of faith; who raised us and taught us of the grace of Jesus Christ. We say Thank You as we respond to God’s grace as we decide and pledge our tithes and gifts for 2017. We celebrate our Thank You when we celebrate Christ as our King, Savior and Lord, ushering out the church year and then the next week beginning to await the coming of our Lord as we look not only toward Bethlehem and a manger, but also toward Jerusalem and Golgotha.
As we enter a time which can be overrun by chaos and the world around us, let us remember, “Give that in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thess. 5:18)
Shalom,
Olivia

This
year on November 24th Mt. Carmel will host the
annual Thanksgiving Day Worship Service at 10:00 AM which includes the
congregations of Mt. Carmel, Old Providence and New Providence. This
will be the 76th year for the Union Service. This is a change in the normal rotation because neither Old Providence nor New Providence are currently served by a regular minister.
Stewardship SUNDAY:
As the 2016 stewardship pledges has been returned to those who pledged, the envelopes and cards will be available to be filled out and given during the offering on November 6. As we have been blessed by God, let us respond to God’s grace accordingly.

STOP HUNGER NOW
Lexington Presbyterian Church
November 13, 2:00 PM
There is hunger throughout the world, both nationally as well as internationally. Stop Hunger Now works to help serve those people in need. Communities come together to purchase and pack high protein meals which are then sent out where they are needed. The Maury River Mission Community is having a Stop Hunger Now Event to help get these meals packed and to those in need. On November 13 we will have a packing event, and volunteers of all ages are needed! There will be a sign-up sheet in the back of the church so people can car pool to Lexington, if they wish. Please sign up!

LET ALL THINGS NOW LIVING
(Glory to God, # 37)
Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving
To God our Creator triumphantly raise;
Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us,
By guiding us on to the end of our days.
God’s banners are o’er us; pure light goes before us,
A pillar of fire shining forth in the night;
Till shadows have vanished, all fearfulness banished,
As forward we travel from light into light.
By law God enforces: the stars in their courses and
The sun in its orbit obediently shine;
The hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains,
The depths of the ocean proclaim God divine.
We too should be voicing our love and rejoicing;
With glad adoration, a song let us raise,
Till all things now living unite in thanksgiving:
To God in the highest, hosanna and praise!
(Katherine K. Davis, 1939)

Helping Out
As we have seen pictures of the flooding in West Virginia and Allegheny County, VA in June, as we have seen the recent pictures from Louisiana, as they have been hit once again with high water and devastation, we wonder what we can do to help. Two ways to help are through giving money, or going out to help rebuild, and there should be some dates announced soon.
Another way we can help is by what we are planning for Everyone Together Celebrating #3, (ETC#3). Again this year, we are packing school kit bags. School is starting both in West Virginia and in Louisiana, and the school kits that we will pack on September 11, will give students new supplies to begin a new school year. These kits will offer students security and hope, for they have lost everything this summer. These kits will show these students and their families that some church, some people whom they don't know, cares. These kits show God's love for all humanity.
So mark your calendar, come to church on September 11, stay for lunch and then we, as a Community of Faith, will pack these school bags, celebrating, as our Lord said, "Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."
Peace,
Olivia

A PSALM FOR THE FALL OF THE YEAR – PSALM 67
This is Hymn # 341 in the Glory to God hymnal, and is from the “New Metrical Version of the Psalms” from 1909
O God, show mercy to us, and bless us with your grace;
And cause to shine upon us the brightness of your face,
So that your way most holy on earth may soon be known,
And unto every people your saving grace be shown.
Let all the peoples praise you; let all the nations sing;
In every land let praises and songs of gladness ring.
For you will judge the peoples in truth and righteousness,
And on the earth all nations will your just rule confess.
Let all the peoples praise you; let all the nations sing.
That earth in rich abundance to us its fruit will bring.
The Lord our God will bless us; our God will blessing send,
And all the earth will worship to its remotest end.
(Tune from composer Gustav Holst, 1918)
